National Welding Month 2017
April is National Welding Month! Welding touches all of our lives whether you have mastered this incredible craft or not. It is the glue that holds our modern world together, and an integral part of the fabrication process. Without welding many of the things we utilize every day would not exist.
The earliest records of welding date back to the Bronze Age, some 2000 years BCE. This didn’t really resemble modern welding in any way, but it served the same purpose and set the stage for the modern world. Modern welding really took off in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Today it is estimated that more than 50% of all man made products require welding. From the planes, trains and automobiles that enable us to travel the world, to the buildings we inhabit and the technology like computers and mobile devices we can’t live without.
The demand for skilled welders is so high that the government and companies are paying to teach workers how to weld. Welders are individuals who aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty, who are creative, detail oriented, and disciplined. Those that learn this indispensable skill have endless opportunity and can find careers in almost any industry. Online Metals is proud to supply these extraordinary individuals with the raw materials they transform into magnificent creations and innovative solutions that benefit and inspire us all.
