This hot rolled mild steel tread floor plate has a 4-way raised lug pattern or diamond pattern on one side, providing skid resistance and all around traction with an easy to clean surface. This is a commercial quality general purpose low-carbon steel that can be easily fabricated and is suitable for bending, moderate forming, and welding.
Commercial Quality Steel (CQ) or Commercial Steel (CS) is a grade of steel suitable for moderate forming processes, bending applications, and a variety of welding and join processes. The term “Commercial Quality” is commonly used to designate a general purpose low carbon steel or mild steel. This steel typically contains less than 0.30% carbon content and up to 0.4% manganese. Though it possesses good formability and weldability, on the flip side, it posses lower hardness and strength than other carbon steels. Furthermore, commercial steels are not produced to specific mechanical property requirements; no minimum or maximum values on any mechanical properties such as yield strength, tensile strength, hardness, elongation or impact toughness are guaranteed. Therefore, the commercial steels are not recommended for drawing applications or structural applications where the mechanical properties of the steel are of paramount importance. Sheets of this quality sometimes show imperfections after deformation or oxide removal which were not clearly visible on the sheet as produced. Such imperfections may be expected on hot rolled commercial quality sheets.
Floor plates have a surface quality suitable for painting applications and moderate fabrication. The 4-Way raised lug pattern makes it a widely used material for flooring on docks, ramps, mezzanines, stair treads, truck and trailer beds, and other surfaces that require maximum skid resistance and an easy to clean surface. The versatility of this steel tread also makes it an excellent choice for the manufacturing of shelving, tool boxes, vending machines, elevator panels, and electronic cabinets which require some fabrication and can be finished.
Though this material is extremely functional, we also found many beautifully designed–but still practical–uses of tread floor plate. Here are a few of our favorites:
