Wrought iron elements can be used for both interior and exterior installations. Projects can be as large as an entire fence or stair and rail system, or as small as an accent on a curtain rod! There’s no limit to the creative configurations of wrought iron elements. In fact, the Eiffel Tower is actually constructed from a form of wrought iron!

The tradition of creating ornamental wrought iron has been around for centuries, with various styling attributes arising from different global regions, including Mediterranean, Spanish and French. Wrought iron is valued for its malleability and toughness. It is also ductile, corrosion-resistant and easily welded. Due to its rough surface it holds platings and coatings better than mild steel, but will produce a less than smooth finish when welded because of the presence of oxides (or inclusions).

Although wrought iron has been popular since the middle ages for weapons and tools, it was not until the 16th century that it became popular as a sophisticated decorative element. From cathedrals to homes to the major gateways of France, ironwork boomed into the 18th century. In the United States the best examples of this era of wrought iron work can be found throughout the city of New Orleans.
